    Hello everyone,

Wondered if anybody out there knows the best time go collect Sea Buckthorn?
I live quite close to the coast and often spot it when I’m out on walks. I remember seeing a program from Ray Mears about eating them but I don’t remember what they said about when to pick them. I know there’s quite a lot of preparation work that needs to go into it but thought it would be cool to try them!

Anyone know the best time of year to collect them?

    Hello Sarah,

Round where I am the Sea Buckthorn are normally out in force in September but they’ll taste sweeter (hardly noticeable with how sour they are!) in October / November after they’ve had their first frost.

    Hope that helps

    Hi all,

I haven’t tried sea buckthorn before but they sound pretty interesting! I’ll have to make a note in my diary for September!
